Alexandra's Angel Gifts, Boxes for Hospitals Appeal

17 Babies a day are stillborn, or die shortly after birth in the UK alone. That's 17 sets of devastated and heartbroken families, leaving hospital without their precious babies every single day.

Having been through this heartbreak ourselves we are now setting up a new appeal. We would like to be able to provide bereaved parents with special keepsake boxes to take home with them. We are starting off locally (our area is Worcestershire), but hope to be able to spread much further afield as time goes by, depending on how successful we are.

So what will we provide with your donation?

A decorated keepsake box in pink or blue. On the box will be a handmade heart wire decoration with a tiny baby feet charm inside the heart and a special baby loss poem inside the lid of the box.

A disposable camera, with a note. After speaking with many bereaved parents and through our own experience, one of the biggest regrets felt later on is either not taking any pictures at all, or not taking enough. In the throws of shock and despair, it is very difficult to know what the right thing to do is, or even contemplate how you will feel later on. The note with this camera will gently suggest that either they, or the midwife if they don't feel able to, take as many pictures as possible and then keep this camera in their special box until they feel ready to have their precious pictures developed. This may be next week, it may be in 10 years time, it may even be never, but having it there will ensure that bereaved parents don't have to suffer the terrible regret on top of their already crippling grief of not having any pictures at all, or too few.

This gift would have meant the absolute world to us when we lost Alexandra and we would be so honoured to be able to offer this service to hospitals and give this small amount of comfort to parents at this devastating time.

We are just starting out with this appeal and need to raise approximately £200 before we can begin. We imagine that it will cost around £10 - £15 per box, but are still shopping around for suitable teddys and cameras. If you feel you can help in any way with these particular items, then please contact us. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. A total amount raised so far will be updated every day.
