Boxes for Hospitals

There are a number of initiatives across the UK aiming to provide special keepsake boxes to bereaved parents. Alexandras's Angel Gifts is donating money each month from the proceeds of the sale of all gifts handmade by ourselves to providing our local hospital, Worcestershire Royal, with our own special keepsake boxes. You are also welcome to donate if you wish by clicking on the donate button at the bottom of this page. For other ways to donate or help, please click here
You can find details of other similar schemes running all over the UK at the bottom of this page.

So what do we provide our hospital with?

  • A decorated keepsake box in pink, blue or neutral. On the box will be a handmade heart decoration in pink, blue or cream with silver embosed baby feet inside the heart and a special baby loss poem.
  • Two handmade teddy bears. One to keep and one to go to rest with baby x
  • A small box and small envelopes to keep hospital tags, locks of hair etc.
  • A small candle to light for their baby.
  • A small bottle of lavender oil. For mum, a few drops of lavender essential oil in a bath is very healing and gently encourages the growth of new skin at the same time as protecting any raw areas from infection. For mum & dad, a couple of drops on a pillow at bedtime can also help with sleep.
  • A disposable camera, with a note, or a memory stick for those with a computer, as our hospital has a digital camera. After speaking with many bereaved parents and through our own experience, one of the biggest regrets felt later on is either not taking any pictures at all, or not taking enough.
  • A little note to the parents with information about the contents of their box, gentle suggestions and information on support.
Note: The letters & all contents of the keepsake boxes have been put together with the help, input and support of many bereaved parents.

This gift would have meant the absolute world to us when we lost Alexandra and it means alot to us to be able to offer this service to our hospital and give this small amount of comfort to parents at this devastating time.

Each keepsake box, including all contents costs around £10.00 As we are working locally  we will be able to deliver these boxes ourselves to cut out the expensive postage costs. Our time to put them together them comes free. If you feel you can help in any way then please contact us.

A big thank you to Shelley, founder of Preemies UK who knits our lovely teddies for us. Please click here to find out more about the fantastic work that Shelley does.

Another massive thank you to Theresa who has also been knitting away and also sent us some really lovely little teddies.

Sands have just launched their new Precious Memory Boxes project. These boxes provide a disposable camera, 2 teddies, a blanket and some little envelopes for hospital tags etc and they are available nationally. You may have a local sands group in your area who are already fundraising to supply these boxes to your hospitals. Click here to see if there is a sands group in your area & you can contact them for further details of how you can help. If there is no group in your area, you will also be able to purchase these special boxes yourself from sands to donate to the hospital of your choice, or arrange your own fundraising event to provide these boxes.
